A little while ago I started an email group consisting of my peers in both the Product and Transportation Design departments at Art Center College of Design, with the intent to exchange information on the latest trends in a range of our interests. Since, the email list has ended and Future Classic was born – a personal theory now expressed in this blog which exists to relate a vision, a vision of a future in which we are 'updating timeless' concepts, designs and ways of life to their most refined and exquisite forms. Future Classic is my vision for the world.
What is Future Classic?
The concept of 'Future Classic' was best put by Oscar Lenius in 'A Well Dressed Gentleman's Pocket Guide,'
"What we define as 'classic' is a marriage of this tradition to the practical requirements of the present. It never has been static, but is an evolving accommodation..."
"...The rules which have grown out of tradition should guide rather than govern, and one should beware of creating too studied an effect. It is the well-dressed man who is noticed, never his clothes."
Future Classic looks forward, remembers the past, and strives to never be about the tools that facilitate any creation, but about to be about the creation itself, making it the best evolution of what is currently available. This applies to products, vehicles, concepts and even oneself.
